Over the past hundred years, the Earth has taken a beating in which it cannot recover from on its own. However, the very people that are trying to protect the Earth from further harm, are the ones causing the most damage... mankind. Our planet has provided the human race the ability to evolve into one of the most sophisticated species ever known. Yet how do we repay our home for the opportunities it had granted us? We shroud the environment in waste and consume resources, leaving terrains desolate, and destroyed. We overproduce food, and use chemicals to sustain the growing demand for food on Earth. This results in the generation of miles of waste each passing year, in some cases, leaving species on the brink of extinction. Yet, we still depend on the Earth to supply a habitat for the plants and animals that inhabit this planet. It is not fair to treat Earth so poorly and still expect it to carry out such great feats. If we continue to damage the planet, there will be nothing left.
The significance of our impact on the Earth has increased over the past hundred years. Advances in technology and breakthroughs in knowledge have lead us to using too many of the Earth’s resources. Rich countries travel to foreign nations in order to cut down or harvest the rare or exotic plants and animals. However, these resources are being used as a luxury for the rich in the world. This is an unfit way to make money and in the process, we are abolishing the diversity in which the Earth has come to attain. Most people recognize this as a problem, but no stern actions have been executed. We can not waste anymore time trying to plan a way to save the Earth, we must act!
If we are to continue to live on Earth, we must treat the environment with much greater respect. The planet can not afford another blow from mankind. We must stop producing quantities of trash. We must bring the use of harmful chemicals on plants and animals to an end. And we must stop cutting down and destroying foreign territories. The time to clean the Earth is now. For if we don’t take actions immediately, we shall all surely come to a downfall in the near future.
